Highlights

The device Settings tab is a real editor, and your settings follow the device. Handedness,

gravity compensation and home return can be staged, applied and — for the first time — saved;

the Hub restores them automatically when the device connects. Two upgrade notes ride along — see

If you might roll back to 1.3.0 and Store on device… below.

The device mount view left the experiment. The 3D viewport and Mount Rotation controls now

live under Show advanced settings; on service 3.5.6 or newer, no experimental-API opt-in is

needed at all.

Your profile's mount rotation is read-only while a device mount is active — the device wins,

and Transfer to profile hands the rotation back when you want it.

Unrecognised hardware is no longer drawn and named as an Inverse3. BigVerse and future

inverse3-family units get a telemetry panel instead of a misleading mesh.

Input Control shows its run state at a glance. Start/Stop tops every pane in a colour-coded

notice, with a redesigned animated intro behind a new ? button.

Every screen now speaks all seven non-English locales — Academy tutorials, tray menu, dialogs

and safety notifications included.

No keyboard shortcut, action or binding changed this release — nothing you bound is retired,

rewritten or deleted on upgrade.

New features

Device Settings tab — persistence and one field model (all users)

Settings-tab device fields survive a restart. Handedness, gravity compensation and home

return gain Modified/Saved pills, a per-field menu and a footer Apply + Save/Reset row. Profiles

saved before 1.4.0 are migrated once, one-way — back the file up before any return to 1.3.0

(see the rollback call-out).

Saved settings are restored automatically when a device connects — the mount rotation after

the device's first calibration. Fields the device already matches are skipped, and an open

Settings panel reseeds its badges instead of stranding a stale Modified.

Applying a setting no longer writes the device's EEPROM. The one thing that still does is

the new Store on device… action — behind a warning, because it persists the device's entire

configuration against a limited lifetime write budget.

One state model across both panels. Save persists applied values only, and the single

"Revert" splits into _Revert unapplied edits_ and _Revert to Saved_.

Reset to Default asks the service for its own default — offered on gravity compensation and

home return, disabled below service 3.5.6. Handedness deliberately has none: the service's reset

forces right-handed, which would physically flip a left-handed unit.

The Auto Apply preference is now read _and written_ by the Settings tab, not just the

Profiles tab.

Device mount (Show advanced settings)

A 3D device-mount viewport on the Settings tab — a rotate-only gizmo (Shift snaps 15°),

gizmo-space toggle and device reset. Nothing applies while you drag; everything commits through

the panel's Apply.

Reworked Mount Rotation controls. A master Device mount toggle, Auto Refresh and a

source selector replace the old two-option control. Turning the master off also resets the

rotation on the device — the confirmation says so first.

A Continuous orientation source (replacing _Sensor_), for service 3.5.6+ on firmware 7.10+

with the experimental API on; below either floor it shows disabled with the missing half named.

The session mount rotation is locked while the device mount is active — Hub-wide. Nothing is

deleted: the rotation returns when the device mount is turned off.

Transfer to profile resets the device mount and hands the rotation to the selected profile,

applying it immediately. It applies, it never saves.

On service 3.5.6 the mount view reads the live snapshot — it follows a tilting device, with

no more out-of-step reads.

Mount and handedness confirmations are in-app dialogs now, not the operating system's box.

Device panel and 3D views (all users)

A session header on the device data panel — #<id> · <profile> in the session colour — and

the Control readouts become pills, collapsing to one muted pill when the device is idle.

The About tab always renders the device at identity — a product view, not a readout.

Input Control (all users)

Start/Stop at the top of every pane, inside a colour-coded block that states whether Input

Control is active — no longer a bare button in the bottom-right corner.

A redesigned intro with an animated Haptic Floor demo, re-openable from a new ? button;

the left-handed caveat now lives inside that intro.

Gestures' Save Copy / Load / Restore Defaults become icon buttons with tooltips.

Improvements

The bundled service updates to 3.5.6, bringing two reset fixes — gravity-compensation reset

now lands off, home-return reset genuinely switches on — and the live, no-opt-in mount

surface.

The License Agreement is redesigned — leaner header, Download PDF as an icon action, restyled

checkbox and acceptance flow. The View License browser link is gone (use Download PDF), and

the Updated date currently renders as a raw ISO date — a tracked regression.

Disabled states are legible — menu items, rotation fields and number fields read as locked

rather than unresponsive.

Checkbox restyle — larger box, heavier border, tinted check.

Tooltips replace native browser titles across the device data panel.

The whole app is translated, not just most of it. Every screen and the five bundled Academy

tutorials now read in all seven non-English locales, and strings that used to bypass translation

— the tray menu, the firmware-update warning, the safety overlay and its notifications — come

through the same layer, falling back to English if a string is missing. Product names stay in

English on purpose.

Fixes

Bugs that were present in 1.3.0.

The firmware branch tabs reflect the branch you picked — the strip was pinned to _Stable_.

The device-scope Mount Rotation section now hides against a service older than 3.5.3,

instead of rendering live and failing every read and write.

The frozen orientation mode works against a 3.5.6+ service — the wire token is now chosen

from the connected service's version.

The camera Home button eases all the way back in every 3D viewport, even if you keep

orbiting during the animation, and no longer leaves the controls stuck.

An idle device shows one muted readout pill instead of two empty control strips.

Unrecognised hardware drops the Inverse3 mesh and marketing name and gets an always-open

telemetry panel filling the column — visible on narrow windows too.

If you might roll back to 1.3.0

One warning stands above everything else in this release: back up device-settings.json before

your first 1.4.0 launch if there is any chance the machine returns to 1.3.0. The migration is

one-way, and a 1.3.0 build silently reads the migrated file as empty and overwrites it on its

first save. Restoring your copy is the only way back.

Deprecations

The "Orientation: On calibrate / Manual" tab pair is retired, replaced by the Device

mount master toggle plus Auto Refresh.

The "View License" external-link button is removed; Download PDF is the remaining way to

read the agreement outside the app.

The schema-2 `device-settings.json` layout is retired with no downgrade path — a 1.3.0 build

overwrites the new file rather than refusing it. Keep a copy.

The legacy `manual` / `sensor` orientation tokens are superseded by freeze / continuous

from service 3.5.6 up; the Hub still speaks the old pair to older services.

The left-handed experimental badge on the Input Control header is removed.

No action, trigger or keyboard shortcut was deprecated this cycle.

Known issues

Shipped behaviour we know about and are not fixing in 1.4.0.

Damping and force gate read unreliably on the device Settings tab (experimental gate):

damping's displayed value is not always correct, and the force gate starts at 0.3, showing

_Modified_ from the first frame. Both need a service-side fix first.

Your mount rotation can still shift when the device recalibrates — 1.3.0's known issue,

unchanged out of the box: the default Inkwell source recaptures the rotation on every

recalibration, and changing that default on a minor release would be a breaking change. The

escape is opt-in: switch Auto Refresh off to freeze the rotation, then save it — the Hub

restores it on every connect.

Left-handed Inverse3 and MinVerse axes are still inverted. The warning badge moved into the

Input Control intro.
